A Little About
Brittany Lynch
I got into internet marketing in early 2003 because my dad needed some help marketing his soccer videos online…and he said that for every sale of a set of his soccer videos, I’d get to make 50% commission ($25 for me for each sale). This was a pretty big incentive to me, because at the time I didn’t have a job and was dying to make some money!
I started Googling how to get someone to buy your product …I thought how can I make money selling these soccer videos. I knew a lot of kids in my community played soccer (heck I was one of them) but the thought of going door to door trying to sell something scared the living heck out of me.
…So I needed a way to sell these soccer videos without doing in person selling. I was shy, what can I say, the thought of standing in front of someone trying to sell these videos was beyond frightening.
THANKFULLY I found a book on AdWords. This book literally changed my life ( I later went on to work at Google in the AdWords department..but more on this later).
I thought this AdWords books was the answer to my problems. It meant that I could sell my soccer videos, without having to sell to my friends, family or strangers (Yippeee!).
So I got to it. I set up a website… It was horrible! But it did the trick, it had information on the soccer videos, and a payment processor. I set up my first AdWords campaign, and began driving traffic to this soccer website.
I spent $100 and didn’t make one sale. Talk about how disappointed I was… I was 15…$100 was a LOT of money to me. And I truly believed AdWords was the answer to my problems.
But I didn’t Give Up
I was so sure that AdWords would work…so convinced that if I could pay for traffic to arrive on my website, that I’d be able to somehow profit by making sales of these soccer videos.
And I was right. One morning I woke up to two sales. That wasn’t enough to cover the cost of my loses, but it was enough to give me hope. So I kept going and eventually had a completely profitable AdWords campaign.
The important lesson here was that I didn’t give up. Even though I was stressed out that I was losing more money by the day, and I had many people tell me that it was impossible to make money on the Internet.
I persisted – and if I can pass one piece of advice on to you, that someone once passed on to me
“Never take counsel of your fears or from naysayers”
Now I continued selling these soccer videos partime while attending school. Then in 2008 I applied for a job that opened up in the Toronto office of Google. Google was looking for an AdWords Account strategist, someone who could build out and optimize fortune 500 companies AdWords campaigns.
At the time my ultimate dream job was to work for Google. For me it was the be all and end all. I wanted that job! I waited two months and didn’t hear anything from them.. I was beginning to lose hope..when I got an email from Google.
The email read (click to expand)
It turns out I had forgotten to update my new phone number on my resume! DOH!
They had been trying to contact me the entire time and I didn’t even know it. Talk about poor job interviewing strategy on my part.
None the less I ended up getting the job (After 8 excruciating interviews) , and it was AWESOME to say the least. I loved working at Google, the job was great, the people were fantastic, the perks were sooo cool. And at the end of the 6 months I even had an opportunity to extend my contract…
Here I am working away on one of the famous Google bean bags.
But that’s when it hit me. Did I really want to work for someone else for the rest of my life?
I thought about it long and hard… I mean in the last five years Google has consistently ranked the number 1 employer in the world. And it was…it was a great company to work for. I was paid very well , I enjoyed working there…I really didn’t have anything to complain about..
But I couldn’t get the idea out of my head.
Did I want to have a 9-5 job, 2 weeks of vacation a year, and at the end of the day, be so tired that when I got home, I didn’t have enough energy to spend the amount of time I wanted with my family, go for a run or do any of the other countless things that I wanted to do and accomplish in my life?
It was a scary, scary time for me. I fought back and forth, rational me told myself that I couldn’t quit my secure day job, Entrepreneurial me told myself that I could make money online, that multiple people, no smarter or ambitious than me, made good money online…
So I made the decision. I had success making money online in the past (albeit just a few 100 dollars a month, it was enough for me to know that it was possible to make a living online). I turned down the opportunity to extend my contract with Google.
My friends called me crazy… Here I was leaving one of the best companies to work for in the world, to go work for myself.
But I did it.
I left Google and I was committed to working full time online. I wanted to make online marketing my full time job.
I started by running a few affiliate promotions; using pay per click to drive traffic…then after a few months I made my first product.
A course that coached others on how to use pay per click to drive traffic to affiliate offers (or their own products) and make money online.
This was a huge success and a very rewarding experience.
I now have a job where I can help other people work for themselves. I get emails almost daily from people expressing their satisfaction with my training, telling me that they too have quit their day job because of the training I’ve provided them.
There are always going to be ups and downs in life, but I can tell you that this is one journey I wouldn’t have changed a thing about.
I hope that I can help you successfully navigate you way to making consistent income online.
To Your Online Business Success
