Over the course of my life I’ve developed several habits that I know have been a huge contributor to my success both online and offline.

I truly believe that you can accomplish anything that you want in life – whether that’s make a billion dollars, lose 50 pounds, travel the world, get out of debt or just be happy.

Developing positive habits changes your life dramatically and for the better. Positive habits enable you to consciously and deliberately accomplish anything you want in life

I’ve put together a list of 5 habits that I use in my own life that have helped me to achieve anything that I have put my mind too.

By adopting the habits below you are increasing the speed and likelihood of achieving not only your financial goals, but simply getting more satisfaction out of every aspect of your life.

I suggest for each habit that you commit to adopting that you undertake a 30 day challenge.

Focus on just one of the habits at a time, and practice that habit every day for 30 days in a row.

Write it down on paper, along with your motivations and obstacles and commit to that habit publicly.

Here’s an easy way to keep track of your habit and help keep you motivated. Print out a 30 day calendar and place it somewhere you’ll see every day. Next mark an X on the calendar every day you successfully practice that new habit.

The goal is to create a chain of 30 X’s in a row. Don’t break the chain. After a few days you’ll have several X’s in a row and you’ll not want to see that chain break.

If you miss a day – don’t sweat, don’t give up..just get back on that horse and focus on trying to complete 30 days in a row of developing that new habit.

Okay so here are my five habits that are crucial to reaching your financial goals and helping you achieve more in your life:

Positive Thinking: This might seem really simple, but I’m constantly surprised by how many people are quick to turn negative when they hit a roadblock in life. A good mindset, in my opinion is the most important tool that you can have in order to achieve your goals. Life can be hard, not everything is easy… you’re going to hit bumps in the road, but if you can just acknowledge the bumps as part of the journey and allow yourself to keep going you’re going to be much better off for it.

Learning: Again pretty straight forward but I spend several hours a day reading and learning from other people from a diverse variety of backgrounds and industries. This helps develop the ability to put yourself in another persons shoes, and see a situation from several perspectives which is very important when you’re trying to develop a business. It also helps you relate to other people, develop more meaningful relationships and understand and bring clarity to what it is that you actually want out of life.

If you hate reading but are open to the concept of learning I suggest you had to your local book store or amazon.com and check out some of the bestsellers, writing the authors names down and heading over to youtube.com and see if you can find recorded interviews from the author. This way you get the benefit of learning from a best selling author, without actually having to read.

Try and start with a goal of developing the habit of incorporating 30 minutes of learning into your day.

Single Tasking: The opposite of multi-tasking —Why is it life-changing? A couple powerful reasons:

• You’ll be more effective with your tasks and get more done. It’s hard to achieve important things if you’re constantly switching tasks and distracted by other “urgent” things.
• You’ll be less stressed overall and (in my experience) happier throughout your day.
• It helps stop the ‘shiny object’ syndrome jumping from one business opportunity to the next.

Focus on one goal: Just as focusing on one task at a time is more effective, and focusing on one habit at a time is more effect, so is focusing on one goal at a time. While it might seem very difficult, focusing on one goal at a time is the most powerful way of achieving your goals.

What if you have 5 goals you want to achieve? Pick one to focus on first. Break it into a mini-goal you can accomplish this month, if it’s a longer-term goal. Pick an action you can do today. Keep doing this until the goal is accomplished — do an action every day, finish the mini-goal, pick the next mini-goal to work on. Then, when your One Goal is completed, focus on the next goal.

Some goals are ongoing ones — like blogging every day, or exercising every day. In those cases, turn them into habits— focus exclusively on turning the goal into a habit, until the habit is ingrained. Then focus on the next goal.

Dedicated Work Time: This one is a biggie. Schedule in at the very least 30 minutes of dedicated work time. I usually spend two hours first thing in the morning working on pro-active business building tasks. Things like creating ad campaigns, developing joint venture partnerships, working on products.

These are tasks that are pro-actively going to help build my business.  For you this might mean that you’re committing 30 minutes a day to building your online business – this might mean writing email auto responder series, creating a sales page, setting up an ad campaign.

The point is this is work time scheduled every day. It’s not for Googling things, it’s not for researching things, it’s not for chatting or Facebook. It’s for working! Even 30 minutes of focused work a day is a game changer (I’m willing to bet it’s more than you do right now)

I’m a really big believer in constantly developing and improving myself. So in the spirit of growth I’ve decided to undertake a one year habit quest.  Over the course of the next 12 months I plan on developing 12 new habits. And I encourage you to follow along with me!

P.s I didn’t end up going on the marketers cruise. I’ve already been in Vegas for Affiliate Summit, then l Boise, Idaho to visit Russell and then in January to Austin, Texas to check out Ryan Deiss Traffic and Conversion Summit..now I’m on my way to Melbourne. As much as I would have liked to check out the cruise I’ve lerned there is such a thing as TOO much traveling!

Consequently, your blog probably has very little to offer someone with a weekend mindset and thus, your readership drops off to about 20% of what it might be during the week! However, if you release content over the weekend that has a more fun, casual orientation but yet still offers valuable insight into the industry, you can dramatically increase your readership between Friday afternoon and Monday morning!

Viral videos, work-related anecdotes and other other mediums that tap into industry-specific humour can easily improve your weekend traffic four-fold. At the end of the day, both you and your readership are interested in more than what you typically post about during the week, so why not use the weekend to branch out, relax, and have some fun with your readers!

Here are seven easy tips to do this right:

1. Remain true to your site: Your weekend content still depends on your audience; so if you run a blog about affiliate marketing, make sure that whatever you’re posting is still somehow related to the industry!  For example, a Saturday Joke Of The Day about affiliate payouts would be perfect; whereas jokes about inappropriate workplace relationships would be a terrible idea!

2. Stay focused on your mandate: Don’t get sidetracked by the new weekend content. Stay focused on your blog’s mandate, which is to grow your audience and credibility, not laughs. At the end of the day, your audience still wants to see a video that relates to your blog’s regular content!

3. Be clear about the changes: Make an announcement to your audience that you’re going to begin producing lighthearted weekend content and begin with direct links to videos or other third-party sites, rather than imbedding them. This way your blog’s feel won’t change as drastically without your reader’s knowledge. Remind them that no one needs to read heavy industry analysis over their Sunday morning coffee and then ease the new content into the mix of things. A drastic new addition could confuse your regular readers, so be clear about the changes!

4. Conserve your content: You don’t have to post 10 funny videos or jokes in a week just because you found them all that week. Compile a list, save them, and distribute them over a longer period of time! This will save you the effort of digging up new content or using weaker content when you’re tapped out and most importantly, it will also allow you to focus on the more important parts of your business!

5. Share content in your newsletter: If your company sends email newsletters, make sure to put some of the lighter weekend content in them too! Video content has gained quite a bit of traction: the average clickthrough rate on a video post is 4.5% compared to only 1.9% for a regular article.

6. Run the good, ignore the bad: If you manage a successful blog, you probably get pitched by agencies and PR people and when you change your weekend strategy, you might be pursued by a new group of media hounds. Obviously, the best strategy for dealing with new pitches is to run the good content and ignore the bad. You and your team know what works on your blog, so don’t cave to new pressure from outside content producers!

7. Have realistic expectations: Don’t expect your blog community to be completely engaged just because you change your weekend approach! Readers will still be more interested in commenting on your heavier-duty weekday content, which is totally understandable. Your thoughtful, opinionated, and content-rich blog posts deserve more user engagement, so make sure to take a relaxed, realistic approach to your new weekend content!

This is Karin, today I’m writing a guest post for Brittany. I started working for Brittany back in December. Those of you from Brittany’s FB Lookin course will know me for my charming British accent and hopefully useful and productive skype sessions. I moved to Toronto from Aylesbury, UK, just before I started working for Brittany, and have been helping her out with customer support and marketing.

I wanted to write a quick guest blog because last week I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Google offices, in downtown Toronto. The premise for the meeting at Google was to learn more about Google Plus, and how it can help small businesses and individuals connect with others online.

Going to the Google office was quite exciting. Brittany had told me a bit about it, from her experience of working there, but I really had no idea what to expect. First of all, Google doesn’t have an office in an office building, as you’d expect, but in a tower in one of the biggest shopping malls in Toronto. It almost felt like I was going to a secret location, I entered the Eaton Center and headed for the elevator to the nth floor, which was signposted very unobtrusively. The elevator reached it’s destination, and the subtleties disappear. The front desk has GOOGLE written in massive letters and the Google letters hang across the ceiling too. I was instructed to sign a confidentiality agreement and directed to a room where I was told I couldn’t leave, except to go to the washroom, and I could only take pictures within that room. It was very exciting and added to the air of mystery.

The group was then introduced to the speaker, Andrew Swartz, who showed us slides and videos about Google Plus.

Google plus may seem like its in the very early stages of development right now, but 90 million people have signed up for it, and it has some interesting features. One I really liked was the hangout, which the Punchcast team in our office is already using. Hangout allows you to connect with 9 other people in a group video chat. At this time it is the only social network which allows this. The quality is really good and you can use the screen share feature (something I’m interested in because I use it a lot on skype with those who need my advice on their facebook projects).

The other interesting feature I liked was that you can share videos or bits of information with certain groups or ‘circles.’ This means that you can have circles of people who you know are interested in specific topics, such as ‘social media marketing’ or ‘facebook advertising.’ You can then post valuable content to the people who you think would enjoy it most.

Google plus seems like a really great way to connect with customers, and share engaging content based on their common interests. In comparison with Facebook it looks like companies can interact with individuals on a much more peer-to-peer level.

Make sure you add the new G+ sharing button to your blogs/websites so that people can find you on Google Plus.

I’m excited for how it will develop in the future, and how Facebook and other networks will compete.

Once again I’m back in Canada briefly between two big trips! Last week I was down in Austin, Texas attending a conference, meetings, and most importantly, catching up with friends!

I went out to my first-ever NCAA college basketball game on Monday night with my good friend Rudy Garza and saw the Longhorns take on Missouri at home, courtside! I didn’t really know what to expect going into it, but I was absolutely blown away with the atmosphere! Even though Texas lost, albeit by only a single point, the crowd was wild from start to finish!

 
Incidentally, Austin, Karin and I all went out to an NBA game the following night back in Toronto. Sadly, the Raptors didn’t put up much of a fight against the Atlanta Hawks and fans started to take off at the beginning of the 4^th quarter…very disappointing… come on Toronto! Have some heart!!!

Once again, I’m heading back Down Under! This Sunday I leave for over two weeks in Australia where I’ll attend another conference and then I’ll be leading my first seminar in Melbourne on the 18^th.  Amazingly, we’ve sold out all of the spots already, and depending on how everything goes, we might run more of these in the future:

Back to the world of blogging! Things are a bit hectic at the moment so I’m glad to be able to fit this one in this week. Some of you may know that last week I spent 4 amazing days in Las Vegas. I was there networking and meeting new people and had a really great time. It helped that the weather was slightly better than it has been in Toronto too!

I also moved to my new apartment last week, in downtown Toronto. It’s very central, so close to some great local amenities and has a lot of space. I’m really looking forward to making it home, and having Austin and Karin visit sometime soon, as occasionally we like to change up our work schedule and work from different locations. Changing up our daily stimuli helps with brainstorming and coming up with innovative ways to go to market.
Speaking of innovation, I mentioned in my previous blog that I’m currently working on getting Insider’s Circle up and running. I’ve being doing lots of research into different marketing strategies and tools, and have found some great email marketing tips that I want to share today.

One of my key findings is that marketers seem to think that they should sell their products or services in the email they send to subscribers, and then re-direct them to a sales page, which sells to them all over again. Selling to readers twice seems a bit redundant to me, try thinking about the following:

• If you want readers to click through to another page, try not to make them read. Reduce your body copy to approximately 100 words, and make your intro paragraph as direct as possible. Offer a strong closing statement and most importantly, give them a link to click on! By shortening the copy, researchers have found that the Click through Rate can be increased by up to 16%.

• Email Capture < Open Rate < Click Through < Landing Page This quick formula shows the order of importance that you should think about when marketing via email. Your email message should always be the most important factor in your new campaign. For effective email capture, make sure you make two things obvious to your reader: the offer and the incentive.

• Email marketing is thriving, especially in comparison to other e-methods of communicating with customers. However, the Direct Marketing Association ranks marketing channels by ROI, and each year email marketing is still coming out top. Make sure you include these four fundamentals to keep emails alive:

o Useful: Is the promised message valuable to the reader?
o Ultra Specific: Does the reader know what is being promised?
o Unique: Is the promised message compelling and remarkable?
o Urgent: Does the reader feel the need to read now?

First, let me start with an emphatic apology for the long absence! I’ve been busier than ever in the last few months and sadly there’s no end in sight!

Work brought me down to Australia for a few weeks at the end of November, I’ve just got back from a conference in Las Vegas/Idaho and now this week I’m going down to Austin, Texas! At the very least, all this time in the southern sun will be a welcomed change from the icy weather we’re getting here in Toronto!

My business has been growing like crazy since I last posted on here and luckily, I’ve assembled a great new team to help me out. In the past few weeks we have been adding a few people at a time, testing the site, and getting awesome feedback!

For those of you that don’t know about Punchcast, it’s unlike every social media platform because it works to connect you with the specific content that you are most interested in and filters out everything else. That way, if I’m really into skydiving, Indonesian politics, and the latest hockey news I can get tailored feeds that fill me in about those topics, without having to sift through all the uninteresting clutter on my news feed that my friends post

It’s been a while since my last blog post..8 months to be exact. I’ve been active in keeping up with my content packed emails, so if you’re not a member of my mailing list yet then definitely sign up to the right.

So what have I been up to lately? A lot really..I have been involved with two social network start ups that will be launching in the fall. That’s really exciting to me and I’ll be sharing more information about those in the coming weeks.

I continue to grow my niche busineses so that I can have lots of passive income and enjoy the lifestyle that I’m leading. I’ve already been to Australia this March, South America in March and April and New Zealand in June. Next Tuesday I’m off to Asia..Thailand and Indonesia for a month, so needless to say I’m really looking forward to that trip. I’ll take some videos while I’m gone and update you on my travels.

The reason I’m able to enjoy all of these amazing traveling experiences is because I focused on one strategy for making money online and I persisted until I had success. When you break it down, making money online isn’t hard. You need three things: Traffic, Something To Sell (yours or an affiliate product & A System so that you can automate your income and make money while you’re sleeping and traveling. I really hope that you don’t give up, and you continue to work towards your goals because trust me, the internet lifestyle is possible.

Here is a video of me skydving in New Zealand…maybe it will inspire you to continue to focus and work towards the goals you’ve set for yourself..or maybe you’ll think I’m crazy. Eitherway Skydiving was something that I always wanted to do and I’ve now crossed it off my bucket list

The new year is always a great time for me to sit down and optimize

the way I run my business and my life. I don’t know if it’s the

entrepreneur in me or what but I’m always thinking how can

I make this process better, more effective and more efficient?

Maybe you already do the same..but if you don’t I encourage you

to read on and hopefully implement some of the ideas below

into your own life.

As an example, I already have a full time employee and another

starting in January but I don’t think I’m using them to the best

of my ability. So I asked myself what are some of the tasks that

I do on a day to day basis and I came up with a list:

Check emails, Customer support, Affiliate payments, Product

creation, Tech stuff , Research, Grocery shopping, Laundry,

Marketing, Graphic design, Video creation, Content creation

(email auto-responsder ect), Admin tasks, Hiring freelancers,

Finding jv partners, Running my affiliate program, Marketing

consultation , Writing sales copy ect..

Then I asked myself which of these tasks could another person

easily do? And I was surprised to see that the majority of them

could be accomplished by someone else.

I’m sure you probably have tasks (household tasks or business

related tasks) that can be outsourced in your own life. I’m also sure

that many of you have been reluctant to outsource tasks in your

life because of fear of the costs associated with outsourcing.

But lets try and think about this a little differently. Right now at

your current job how much do you make an hour? Is it $15, $30,

$100? More? I know exactly how much I make an hour, and I know

that for what I’m making an hour I’m spending far too much time

on tasks like laundry or administrative duties (thus losing

potential income) when I could outsource these tasks for

$10 an hour to an English speaking virtual assistant who

lives in Canada or the United States.

Going forward in 2011 I’m going to really make an effort to

constantly streamline my business and life. And I encourage

you to do the same.

Here are a few of the changes I’m going to be implementing in 2011:

1) Create a detailed outsourcing plan. Define who is going to be

doing what and when and for how much (in business and in life).

2) Constantly measure my results…not enough people do this..

heck I don’t do this enough.

3) Make EVERYTHING I do a contest. Do I Win or do I lose?

How long did it take me to do this task last time? Did I do it faster?

Better this time? This ties into measuring my results too.

I think most entrepreneurs are pretty competitive by nature,

they have to be as they are the people pushing their businesses to grow.

4) Write my goals down every single day so that I’m

accountable to what I want to achieve in 2011.

5) Creating a structured schedule to follow each and every day

(that includes a balance of lifestyle, well being and business

activities).

6) Setting specific days each month dedicated to 1) product creation

2) bulk writing blog posts 3) bulk creating email content

4) Marketing 5) strategic business development 6) ect

These are just a few of the things I will be working on in 2011.

Have you thought about what your 2011 looks like? I know for me

I’m going to have a big year and I know EXACTLY what I want to

accomplish in 2011, and EXACTLY how I’m going to go about

achieving it (of course plans change, modify and improve over

time but the point is I have an initial path to achieve my goals).

Make sure you take some time today or this week to really sit

down and think about how you want your 2011 to shape up.

Literally ANYTHING is possible. You can achieve anything you

want in 2011 and beyond. You just need to sit down and define

what it is you want, and break it down into actionable steps. .
