Part Two of Three: Optimizing Your AdWords Campaign For Mobile

Good Morning,

Part two of three for the mobile advertising series is here!!! I know you’ve all been patiently waiting for it so get ready to absorb some killer information :)

Today we are going to talk about optimizing your existing search campaigns for mobile.

FIRST things first you’re going to want to duplicate your current campaign that you want to run in mobile. This is REALLY easy to do on AdWords editor. Literally with a click of a button you can easily duplicate campaigns.
Now we are going to want to do a few things before we actually start running the campaign.

SECOND verifying your keywords, as not all keywords in your existing search campaign will be good candidates to run on mobile, the reason for this is many keywords will have too low search volume.

So I’m sure you’re asking yourself right now, yes, but how do I CHECK to see how many monthly searches there are on mobile.

That is why I’m here. I’m going to tell you.

  1. Log in to your AdWords account and click on the keyword tool.
  2. Select Advanced Options. If you haven’t used the internal (that is the keyword tool that appears when you are logged into your AdWords account) for a while, it will look different to you, better different.
  3. Additional info will drop down after you select advanced options. Below Locations and Languages you will see “Show Stats for” and it will say mobile search. Tick off mobile search.
  4. Select which countries you are running or plan to run this campaign in, so you get accurate search volume.
  5. Select Search. You will now see the monthly MOBILE search volumes appear.

THIRD now that you know how to check the monthly search volume for mobile searches, enter in your keywords. If you’re getting keywords with a below 50 monthly searches just remove them as that is too few searches in order justifying time spent on them.

FORTH go into your AdWords account settings area and adjust the settings for mobile for your new mobile campaign.

  1. Go to Settings within AdWords
  2. Select Networks and Devices
  3. Select Edit Devices.
  4. Select “Let Me Choose”
  5. Select Iphones and other Mobile Devices With Full Internet Browsing
  6. Select Save

FIFTH before you activate the campaign you will want to adjust the bids downwards. Mobile is a lot cheaper than traditional search, right now, which is why I’m urging everyone to get in now and give themselves a head start (not only on getting those awesome cheap clicks but a head start on learning how to dominate the mobile market).

Lower your bids by about 25-30% across the board.

You’re now ready to start your campaign. Don’t forget to optimize and test as you would for any other campaign in your account. That is important, especially with something as new as mobile.

Tomorrow is probably the most important aspect of the mobile series, optimizing your AdWords mobile landing pages. If you’re interested in mobile advertising at all, you can’t miss tomorrows post.
